FM 2720 Road Project Overview

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is proposing enhancements for a 7.2-mile stretch of FM 2720 from SH 21 to SH 142, covering Hays and Caldwell counties in Texas. These enhancements involve intersection upgrades at CR 235. The primary aim of this proposed project is to bolster safety, connectivity, and mobility. By augmenting roadway capacity, it aims to address present and anticipated traffic needs stemming from population expansion and rising traffic levels. These proposed improvements align with TxDOT’s strategy to elevate FM 2720 by incorporating additional mainlanes and shoulders.

Proposed Improvements

  • Four-lane undivided roadway with a center two-way left-turn lane from SH 21 to south of CR 228
  • Four-lane divided roadway from south of CR 228 to just south of CR 235
  • Two-lane roadway with a center two-way left turn lane from south of CR 235 to SH 142
  • Separate travel lanes by adding a two-way left turn lane or grassy median with a cable barrier
  • Add right turn lanes at various intersections
  • Add safety improvements to the intersection at CR 235
  • Upgrade the signal at SH 21 and FM 2720

Anticipated Next Steps:

  • Late 2024 – Preliminary engineering and environmental studies are estimated to be complete
  • Mid 2025 – Detailed design estimated to be complete
  • Late 2026 – Right-of-way acquisitions to be completed and construction to begin
