The Texas Department of Transportation’s proposed mobility and safety improvements at I-35 and Williams Drive would reconstruct the Williams Drive interchange at I-35 to a diverging diamond intersection, construct north and southbound intersection bypass lanes under the Williams Drive bridge, extend the northbound I-35 frontage road from Williams Drive to the Lakeway Drive exit ramp, improve the existing I-35 southbound frontage road, construct a northbound bypass lane on Austin Avenue at Williams Drive, and improve bicycle and pedestrian paths along the I-35 frontage roads.

The proposed project would require approximately 8.7 acres of additional right of way; however, no residential or non-residential displacements would occur.

The environmental study and schematic/design development process for the $70 million project began in fall 2015 and is anticipated to be complete in mid-2019.Construction letting is expected to occur in mid-2020, with construction anticipated to be complete in mid-2023.

Texas has been aggressively acquiring private land through condemnation for transportation projects across the state to accommodate the needs of a growing population. If you have been contacted by TxDOT or any of their representatives, please contact us immediately. The important thing to remember is that even if you’ve received a letter in the mail from a condemnation entity informing you of their intentions, this does not mean that it’s a done deal. There are many ways to influence the condemnation process to ensure that your wants and needs are met, but it’s important that you involve knowledgeable professionals that can help guide you through the process.
