SH 249 Road Project

The proposed project will reconstruct and widen SH 249 from BW 8 N to I-45 N, expanding it from a six-lane to an eight-lane divided roadway over a 7.2-mile stretch. The design includes four lanes in each direction with 6- to 30-foot-wide raised medians and 10-foot-wide sidepaths along both sides at the edge of the right-of-way.  The project features three stormwater detention facilities and a Right-Of-Way width of 162 to 180 feet. While the project would require additional Right-Of-Way, potentially displacing nine residences and 14 commercial structures, relocation assistance is available.

Proposed Improvements

  • The roadway improvements would construct four lanes in each direction with six to 30-foot-wide raised medians to separate traffic.
  • Ten-foot-wide side paths would be constructed on both sides of the roadway on the edge of the right-of-way.
  • Three stormwater detention facilities would also be added along the project corridor.

Timeline

  • Right-of-way-acquisition in the Fall of 2024
