About Steve
Steve Anderson brings more than 50 years of legal experience to his work representing landowners and property owners across Texas. His career has spanned corporate finance, real estate, criminal defense, and general business practice, giving him a deep and well-rounded perspective on the legal issues his clients face.
Known for his straightforward and honest approach, Steve is committed to helping landowners protect their property rights and navigate complex legal matters with confidence and clarity.
Steve began his career with Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld in Dallas, where he practiced corporate finance and real estate law and became a partner in 1982. He went on to serve as a staff attorney in the Dallas County Public Defender’s Office, focusing on criminal defense, before co-founding Mills, Presby & Anderson and later leading his own practice.
Over the decades, he has advised individuals, businesses, and landowners on a wide range of legal issues, always grounded in a practical, solutions-oriented approach.
A landowner himself, Steve, understands firsthand the importance of protecting property rights. He finds great reward in developing long-standing relationships with clients built on trust and mutual respect. His work is driven by a deep appreciation for land as a resource and a legacy; something to be stewarded, protected, and passed on to future generations. Clients value his intelligence, experience, level-headed perspective, and practical solutions.
Steve has also contributed to the legal community and public discourse beyond his client work. He has reported on high-profile legal matters, including the Warren Jeffs trial for National Public Radio, and provided commentary on legal issues for Marfa Public Radio.
He has been admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the Northern District of Texas. Steve has served on numerous boards and committees, including the Dallas Bar Association Board of Directors, the Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights under Law of Texas, and the State Bar of Texas Lawyer’s Care Advisor Board.
In addition to his legal practice, Steve has dedicated part of his career to teaching, serving as an adjunct professor at the Southern Methodist University School of Law and in the Department of Philosophy, as well as a teaching assistant in legal theory at the University of Warwick.
Outside of work, he has been actively involved in civic and nonprofit organizations, including Proyecto Adelante, the City of Dallas Landmark Committee, and his local parish and school boards. When he is not practicing law, Steve enjoys reading, hiking, and practicing yoga. He finds peace and inspiration at his property in Alpine, Texas, where his connection to land and community runs deep.
