2026 Texas Land Conservation Conference

February 27 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

Join Attorney & Counselor Margaret Menicucci of Braun & Gresham at the 2026 Texas Land Conservation Conference for a panel discussion focused on the evolving role of conservation easements in Texas and how thoughtful amendments can strengthen long-term land protection.

As land use needs, ownership goals, and environmental conditions change, conservation easements must sometimes be amended to remain effective and enforceable. This session, “Amending Conservation Easements: Making Sure Change Is Good,” will explore when amendments are appropriate, how they should be approached, and the legal and practical considerations involved for both landowners and land trusts.

Braun & Gresham is a law firm dedicated to representing landowners, and Margaret brings extensive experience advising clients on conservation easements and the estate planning strategies closely tied to long-term land protection. During this panel, she will address how to use amendments to reduce ambiguities found in older easements, avoid common pitfalls that may arise during the amendment process, and anticipate future change during drafting.

Topics include:

  • Identifying allowable amendments to conservation easements
  • Identifying potential risks and pitfalls for both landowners and land trusts
  • Understanding the constraints land trusts face when considering amendments
  • Using amendments to clarify ambiguities in older easements
  • Anticipating future amendments when drafting easements

This session is designed for land conservation professionals, land trust staff and volunteers, government representatives, nonprofit and business partners, and landowners seeking a deeper understanding of how conservation easement amendments are evaluated and implemented.

The panel will take place on February 27 at 9:00 a.m. at the Hilton Austin Airport Ballroom, as part of the 2026 Texas Land Conservation Conference, hosted by the Texas Land Trust Council.
